Cross-platform multiplayer is a feature rarely seen. But if Valve has its way, it could be coming to a PS3 near you.
Valve developer Erik Johnson has revealed a nifty little piece of information for those future Portal 2 owners. At this point in time Johnson says Valve is “planning” on allowing PS3 players of the game to play with PC/Mac users. This is undoubtedly because of the PS3’s touted openness to develop. Steam and Steamworks will be a major part of the coordinated effort.
What’s most exciting about this announcement, is that if it all goes well, Valve could provide any of their franchises with this cross-platform capability on the PlayStation 3. It looks like this will be just one of the many reasons that will make “the PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 best version on any console. As for the Xbox 360, Johnson said that there were no plans for Steamworks to come to the console, but that the decision ultimately lies with Microsoft.
