God of War Ragnarok Dev Currently Working On ‘a Lot of Different Things’

God of War Ragnarok dev Santa Monica Studio hasn’t internally developed anything other than God of War games since 2005 but it’s currently working on “a lot of different things,” creative director Cory Barlog told Los Angeles Times. Since its inception 23 years ago, the studio’s sole release outside of its tentpole franchise was 2001’s Kinetica, a racing game on the PS2. Other than that, it has collaborated with external studios on a large number of diverse games.

God of War Ragnarok dev doesn’t mind being dedicated to the franchise

Barlog understandably didn’t divulge what Santa Monica Studio is working on beyond telling LA Times that the team is “spread out on a lot of different things.” But Ragnarok director Eric Williams added that the company has no qualms in being dedicated to the God of War franchise full-time.

“I remember talking to someone from another game company, where they were trying to get me to leave,” Williams recalled. “They said, ‘Do you just want to be known as the God of War guy for the rest of your life?’ That was your big pitch to dissuade me? Because yes, I kind of do.”

Santa Monica Studio had a sci-fi game in development a number of years ago, which was cancelled.
