Ubisoft Shutting Down Online Services for More Than a Dozen Games Including Far Cry 3

Ubisoft is shutting down Far Cry 3 and older Assassin’s Creed online services among more than a dozen games from the PlayStation 3 era. Starting September 1, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC players will no longer be able to access online components of a number of legacy games, with PC players even losing access to some downloadable content, which has drawn the gaming community’s ire.

  • Assassin’s Creed 2 (PS3 and PC)
    • You will be unable to play multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.
  • Assassin’s Creed 3 (2012 Release – all platforms)
    • You will be unable to play multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.
  • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (all platforms)
    • You will be unable to play multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.
  • Assassin’s Creed Revelations (PS3 and Xbox 360)
    • You will be unable to play multiplayer or use online features.
  • Driver: San Francisco (all platforms)
    • You will be unable to play multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.
  • Far Cry 3 (2012 Release – all platforms)
    • You will be unable to play multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.
  • Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (PS3 and Xbox 360)
    • The multiplayer for the game will be unavailable. To play the solo campaign, you will have to set your console into offline mode.
  • Rayman Legends (all platforms)
    • You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.
  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist (all platforms)
    • You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

Ubisoft didn’t say why PC games will lose access to download and installation of DLC.

In other news, a Sony patent suggests that older PlayStation peripherals might become compatible with the PS5 via emulation, and Sony is looking for a classics engineer to work on new emulators among other projects.
