Sony has announced a free online multiplayer weekend for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players without a PlayStation Plus subscription. The offer is valid from December 18th at 12:01 AM until Dec 19th 11:59 PM local time.

Since we’ve noticed some confusion among users in response to the tweet above, it’s imperative to mention that the games that you see in the announcement image aren’t free to download and try online. They’re merely being used as examples of currently popular multiplayer games. What you’re getting is the ability to try out multiplayer elements in any of the games that you already own for free, without the need for PlayStation Plus or compulsion to purchase a subscription thereafter.
The length of the free offer is another matter. Quite a few users are being critical of the rather short trial period. We personally would have preferred if the free weekend kicked off on Friday, but you can’t always have what you want.
