Data Issue Delays September NPD Report But Nintendo Reveals Switch Was the Top-Selling Console

A “data issue” has delayed NPD Group‘s September 2017 US market report but a press release by Nintendo reveals that the company’s Switch console was top-selling current-gen hardware for the month.

Since its launch, this is the fifth time (and third straight month) that Switch beat PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to claim the number one spot. The press release further states:

When combined with the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and the plug-and-play Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, Nintendo systems claimed two-thirds of the month’s total video game hardware sales.

Nintendo Switch games again occupied multiple spots in the list of best-selling individual games of the month, including Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle from Ubisoft at No. 7, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at No. 10 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at No. 11. Also, the Metroid: Samus Returns game for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems debuted at No. 8.

As for the full report, NPD’s Mat Piscatella has said that it’s scheduled for release on Monday, October 23. “The NPD Group’s QC process highlighted a data issue within digital data for Sept 2017,” he tweeted. “The NPD Group’s September Video Game data for the US is now scheduled to release on Monday Oct 23rd.”

We’ll share the full results with our readers when they become available.
