Giant Sparrow’s adventure game, What Remains of Edith Finch, recently received the Digital Foundry treatment and its results aren’t exactly positive. The outlet has noted that the game’s PlayStation 4 version suffers from a “dramatic” loss of performance compared to the PC version and needs quite a bit of improvement.
Frame-rate on the standard PS4 is averaging 25fps in open areas and drops even lower in some spots. Digital Foundry believes that if the studio implements better frame-pacing, then at the very least the PS4 Pro will deliver steady 30fps. However, the game still requires optimization work especially in the outdoor areas to deliver a decent performance on the base PS4.
“When you combine a low average frame-rate with bad frame-pacing and streaming stutters, the result just isn’t good enough,” the analysis reads.
Although What Remains of Edith Finch is a slow-paced adventure, the immersion certainly counts, which Digital Foundry says is affected by the aforementioned issues.
