Gran Turismo Sport Closed Beta Begins March 17 in the US, Sign-Ups Live

Sony and Polyphony Digital have announced that the limited Gran Turismo Sport Closed Beta will begin on March 17, and you can sign-up for it right now (United States, Europe). Only those with US PSN IDs will be chosen in Phase 1, while those in Europe will start receiving emails in Phase 2 (date TBA).

As Polyphony Digital President Kazunori Yamauchi explains, the Gran Turismo Sport Closed Beta will offer a rotating selection of content each day:

Participants will be able to choose from a select rotation of cars and tracks each day to race online against others during the Beta phases. Track and car selections will vary during this period, and we made sure to offer different race class categories and course configurations to properly test our GT fans!

This will also be the first time users will see how the Driver Profile is integrated within GT Sport. The introduction of Sportsmanship Rating (tracks a player’s behavior and manners on-track) and Driver Rating (represents the overall speed of the player and how well they perform in races) will ensure those that race online will be equally matched, naturally creating a balanced group of competitive drivers for every race.

During Phase 1, servers will only be open during specific times across the day (details TBA).

Yamauchi also teased that he hopes to be back “soon to announce more details regarding a larger Beta access for the community… stay tuned!”

Before Gran Turismo Sport was delayed from November 2016 to an unspecified time in 2017, Yamauchi said they didn’t have enough time to create a beta.
