Mojang’s Minecraft is still going strong and shows no sign of sign of slowing down as the developer has just announced that it has sold 122 million copies. Not only that, but we’re told that 55 million people play the game each month! News comes by the way of Minecraft‘s official Twitter account, which wrote:
Hurrah! Sending a big thank you to all our amazing players. pic.twitter.com/5RaD1dpW65

… We didn’t calculate how many of you in the conga line would be going for a swim. Pack your snorkel! pic.twitter.com/trDqqDbgI2

Minecraft had sold 100 million copies as of last June, and had about 40 million monthly players at the time. Considering that, the jump is pretty incredible.
If the recently reported sales of Terraria and today’s news is any indication, then the sandbox adventure genre certainly isn’t going anywhere.
If you’re a regular Minecraft player, let us know what keeps you coming back.
