Xbox One Outsold PS4 By 25,000 Units in the UK in October 2016

The United States isn’t the only place where the Xbox One is beating the PlayStation 4, as tracking firm GfK has revealed to Games Industry that Microsoft’s console finished #1 in the UK in October 2016. This marks the first time the Xbox One has outsold the PS4 in consecutive months.

In September 2016, the Xbox One was #1 in the UK by 1,500 units, but that number increased to 25,000 in October 2016. Looking at the UK console hardware market in October, 177,700 units were sold overall, with the Xbox One holding a 56% share (99,496), the PS4 a 42% share (74,630), and the Wii U a 2% share (3,550).

Xbox UK Marketing Director Harvey Eagle highlighted the Xbox One S and its various bundles as reasons for the recent success:

Thanks to our fans, Xbox One was the best-selling console in October, the second month in a row in the UK, according to GfK Entertainment.

It’s great to see such enthusiasm for the new Xbox One S range of consoles including FIFA 17, Gears of War 4, Battlefield 1 and now – for the first time – Minecraft. All of which are available to purchase now.

Despite these latest victories for Microsoft, Games Industry points out that the PS4’s install base in the UK remains “well ahead” of the Xbox One. According to retailer GAME, combined PS4 and Xbox One sales in the UK were at 5.1 million as of January 23, 2016, and three million of that came from the PS4.

With the launch of the PS4 Pro on November 10, and Sony partnering on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on Watch Dogs 2, do you think the PS4 will rebound in November?
