GameStop CEO Paul Raines has showered praise on Naughty Dog’s “spectacular” Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, noting that the high-street retailer is “very happy” with the sequel’s early sales figures.
Said to be simmering north of 2.7 million since launch week, Raines touched base on Uncharted 4 sales during an interview with Fox News. And though he stopped short of divulging specific figures, the executive had nothing but praise for Naughty Dog’s sequel.
“I’ve played all the Uncharted series [games] and they’re all spectacular. One just gets better than the other. Naughty Dog has done a spectacular job again. The character development is rich. It’s a little bit of a Raiders of the Lost Ark adventure. It’s a fantastic game [and] has sold through well for us. We love Sony first-party games, anyway; always have.”
Elsewhere, the GameStop CEO reaffirmed previous claims that E3 2016 will herald the announcement of new hardware from Sony and Microsoft. When quizzed about the purported PlayStation 4.5 and Xbox One Slim, Raines teased, “we’re gonna hear about that at E3.”
Adding fuel to those rumors was Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who alluded to the mid-generation upgrade during the Cowen and Company Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (via GameSpot). Said he: “Do I expect there will be another iteration of hardware? I do. Do I think that will be good for us? I do. If it doesn’t happen, will it be bad for us? No.”
Last we reported, PlayStation 4.5 was rumored for a late September release to coincide with PlayStation VR. Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, meanwhile, has been slated for Monday, June 13 at 6pm PST/9pm EST.
