In the original announcement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Activision revealed that Crash, Backlot, and Crossfire would be three of the ten included multiplayer maps. In their own post about the game, Forbes has confirmed that Overgrown and Bog will be included as well.
Forbes also spoke with Rob Kostich, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Call of Duty franchise, who said, “We’ve heard the community loud and clear the last couple of years,” and their petitioning helped lead to the remaster. Since Infinity Ward was the original Modern Warfare developer, and they’re bringing out Infinite Warfare this year, Kostich added that “we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to celebrate Call of Duty and the community, where we’re going and where we’ve been and bring it together in one package.”
With Modern Warfare Remastered included solely in Infinite Warfare’s special editions ($80 and up), Kostich says, “From an overall offering, an overall value proposition, I think what we’re giving to the community this year is frankly unprecedented in Call of Duty history.”
Development on Modern Warfare Remastered is being led by Raven Software, who has helped with many Call of Duty titles in the past. As Infinity Ward Studio Head Dave Stohl explained, Raven isn’t just “slapping HD on it and putting it out in a higher resolution.” Instead, he says it’s going to look amazing:
The character pipelines have comes so far since then. The core tech itself from a rendering point of view, if you look back at 2007, you look at modern physically based rendered games now, it’s so different. It’s so exciting to see that level of fidelity in a game we all know and love. I think it’s really gonna look amazing, it’s gonna really look good.
Raven Software Studio Director David Pellas added that, even with all the new tech and new features going into the maps, the core gameplay experience remains the same. “So we’re not looking to make significant changes to multiplayer maps, for example, but what we’re able to do because of the new generation of hardware is offer such an incredible leap forward in graphic fidelity,” he said.
As for any worries Activision might have with people playing Modern Warfare Remastered more than Infinite Warfare, Kostich said, “We’re thrilled they’re going to be playing a lot of Call of Duty this year.”
