Sony has just announced its acquisition of sensor technology company SoftKinetic after reaching an agreement with its shareholders.
Thanks to the purchase, Sony now has access to SoftKinetic’s advanced sensor and gesture-recognition technology, including the technology to use image sensors to measure the distances of nearby objects. While Sony did not announce exactly what it would do with the technology, it can be assumed that it will somehow find its way into the PlayStation VR, or perhaps future virtual reality devices. Sony did explain that it would try to incorporate its newly acquired tech into next-generation products.
