You probably already know that the PlayStation 4 version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is running at 1080p, while the Xbox One version is running at 900p. However, do you know how the two current-gen versions compare to each other side by side?
Maybe not, which is why the Digital Foundry team decided to find out. Looking at the two versions, the team found that while the PS4 version does look crisper and cleaner, the Xbox One version looks at least comparable. All the game’s textures, shadows, and effects are essentially identical to each other.
In terms of performance, bother versions of The Phantom Pain apparently do a good job of staying at around 60fps, although during certain busy sections, the frame-rate can dip dramatically. The Xbox One version manages to do far better with these dips than the PS4 version, although since the dips apparently don’t happen all that frequently, it doesn’t make a major difference.
Unless you managed to get your hands on a leaked early copy and checked out the differences between the two current-gen versions for yourself, you probably are still patiently waiting for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to release on September 1 for PlayStation 4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Which platform will you be getting it on?
Stay tuned to our MGSV: The Phantom Pain review coming up early next week!
