During a live Q&A session on Twitch, Shenmue 3 creator Yu Suzuki answered a number of fan questions, including those about the game’s Kickstarter campaign and the missing disc version for the PlayStation 4.
Suzuki said that he does want the game to have a disc release for the console, but that he’s currently considering how to go about it. He asked fans to be patient in the meanwhile.
Elsewhere in the Q&A session, Suzuki confirmed that Sony is helping with Shenmue 3‘s marketing, promotion, and funding, and reiterated that the company will not receive anything from the Kickstarter campaign. The funds raised will not only be used to pay Kickstarter fees, but also to fulfill backer rewards among other things.
In case you’re hoping for HD remasters of Shenmue 1 & 2, do remember that the game rights belong to SEGA, but Suzuki said that he will speak to the company about it.
Speaking of the upcoming title, Suzuki also said that he’s not happy with Ryo’s face at the moment, and is looking to improve it further. Additionally, he’s currently negotiating with the character’s Japanese and English voice actors in order for them to return.
A demo for Shenmue 3 might be available near the end of the development cycle, which will be sometime early 2017.
