Don’t Expect Any South Park: The Stick of Truth DLC

Releasing in March 2014 to positive sales and reviews, South Park: The Stick of Truth isn’t expected to receive any DLC, with the move from THQ to Ubisoft highlighted as a potential factor by developer Obsidian.

Polygon interviewed Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart recently, where he said, “As far as we know [Ubisoft and South Park] are done.” They’re still talking to Ubisoft about what else they could do for the game, but Urquhart doesn’t “know what that could be.”

Originally planned to be made by South Park Digital Studios with Viacom, it was eventually picked up by THQ and Obsidian. Then, when THQ folded, Ubisoft “got it for 15 to 20 cents on the dollar,” says Urquhart. “It was technically pretty far along, but there was still a lot of work to get done.”

Thanks to the South Park team helping out, the game was eventually finished, but due to the publisher shift, any DLC hopes were dashed:

We had always talked about it, extending the story through DLC, it was just stuff on paper. But it never went beyond talking about it. That was when THQ was involved. When it moved to Ubisoft, there was more pressure to get it done. I think that became the priority, so we got it done.

In the slim chance that The Stick of Truth does receive DLC, what would you like to see?
