Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Freedom Cry DLC Confirmed for Release on December 17th/18th

This Tuesday, December 17th in North America and Wednesday, December 18th in Europe, the Freedom Cry DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will release on PS3 and PS4 for $9.99, or Season Pass holders can download it for free.

Featuring Edward Kenway’s first mate Adéwale, Freedom Cry is a nine mission self-contained story set 15 years after the end of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Now a valued member of the Brotherhood, Adéwale begins Freedom Cry shipwrecked in St. Domingue (modern-day Haiti), “where he comes face to face with some of the most brutal slavery in the West Indies. As he makes his way through St. Domingue, Port-au-Prince, and the surrounding seas, Adéwale will counter the abominable cruelty festering in the region with his own ruthless justice, delivered via bloody machete, powerful blunderbuss – and while aboard his fearsome brig Experto Crede.”

With Freedom Cry also including new weapons, new gameplay in the form of freeing slaves and a unique take on the plantation sequences from Black Flag, and new assassinations, Lead Writer Jill Murray explained on the Ubi Blog why Adéwale decides to free all the slaves:

Adéwale was a slave as a child, and he escaped around the age of 14. For many people in history who were slaves, once they managed to free themselves, they just wanted to be left alone to live their lives in peace. And so they would turn to subsistence farming, raise a family, that kind of thing. For Adéwale, he flees to piracy, and he becomes a self-made man with his own idea of liberty that he’s able to maintain throughout his life. I think it’s a very human reaction to not necessarily want to go back and get re-involved with slavery. And, as we see in Black Flag, he does not make freeing other slaves the point of his existence. He chooses piracy, and then he chooses the Creed.
