It may be a couple weeks since TGS ended, but Business Spectator published an article from a roundtable they attended following Sony’s keynote speech at the event, which featured Andrew House, President of SCE, and Masayasu Ito, Senior Vice President at SCE.
In this, they report that Masayasu Ito said the $399 price tag for the PS4 was “the magic price,” and efforts were made to include the PlayStation Camera with the PS4 at $399, but the worry of losing even more money with each system sold prevented them from doing so.
Andrew House then chimed in about the PlayStation Camera, talking about how he doesn’t see the peripheral as a major selling point:
Certainly for the earlier part of the lifecycle, the vast majority of the audience that we speak to tells us that their primary wish is for the full controller interface and there’s not necessarily a huge emphasis being placed on camera interaction.
House continued by saying how they’re prepared to “adjust messaging” in the future when it comes to the PlayStation Camera possibly being bundled with the PS4, at a point they believe it could target a larger audience.
Do you think it was a smart business move by Sony to exclude the PlayStation Camera from the $399 PS4? Let us know in the comments below.
