Today Warner Bros. has announced that Batman: Arkham Origins will have a multiplayer mode. The Arkham series has traditionally been solely single player experiences, so this is the first time a true multiplayer component has been added.
Called Invisible Predator Online and developed by Splash Damage, the guys behind Brink, this multiplayer component will pit players in a 3 vs 3 vs 2 setup. You can choose from one of 3 factions: Bane’s thugs, Joker’s thugs, or the heroes (Batman and Robin). While the thugs duke it out in third person shooter gameplay trying to rack up as many kills as they can, Batman and Robin will try to stealthily take them out in order to build an intimidation meter. It is like many of the stealth sequences in Arkham single player modes, except the thugs are now controlled by real people instead of AI.
Batman and Robin will have access to gadgets and their detective vision, while thugs will be able to activate an enhanced vision mode for a short burst of time. If certain conditions are met, both Joker and Bane can become playable and are much more powerful than the average henchmen. Players will also be able to customize the look of their thug as well as their weapon loadout.
What are your thoughts on this addition of multiplayer? Does it sound interesting or seem like an unnecessary add-on? Let us know in the comments.
