Kingdom Hearts 3 to “Depict the Final Battle with Xehanort,” Continue Story From Dream Drop Distance

During the Sony Press Conference, we were only given a brief teaser of Kingdom Hearts III on PS4. It was until after the big reveal that some details started to trickle out, including the fact that it’s also coming to Xbox One and a few story tidbits.

In a recently published issue of Famitsu (via Polygon), Tetsuya Nomura, Director, expanded on the story, revealing that it takes place where Dream Drop Distance ended. For some more specifics, he said “it’s the final episode in the ‘Dark Seeker’ saga that began with the original Kingdom Hearts, and it’ll depict the final battle with Xehanort.”

Kingdom Hearts III may “still [be] pretty early in development,” but Tetsuya did mention that there “a demo version running on the actual hardware,” and “the really bold action we’ve always had is getting even crazier.” You can also expect three-person parties, with NPCs and other characters able to join the fight in each individual world, and more intricate enemy AI.

There’s clearly much more information of the game to be told, with Tetsuya hinting that we’ll likely being seeing the game at the Tokyo Game Show in September or the D23 Expo Japan in October.
