Investigating L.A. Noire’s Gameplay

It’s time to get out your handy magnifying glass and notebook to examine these clues about L.A. Noire‘s gameplay.

L.A. Noire is Team Bondi’s upcoming detective thriller that places you in the shoes of Cole Phelps, a rookie cop who is working his way up the ranks of the LAPD in 1950’s Los Angeles. The period of time is one of the most violent eras for the city, and provides many cases for Cole to tackle, many of which are based on real life unsolved crimes.

It’s well known at this point that the game is using a revolutionary technology to map the faces of characters from live actors in order to properly convey emotion within the game. The mapping results in such realistic facial expression that players should be able to tell if a character is lying or not by reading their reaction. While we’ve been told that this will be used throughout the game to make progress within investigations, many have been left wondering how much of the game will focus on detective work, and how much will be action oriented. New videos have surfaced, detailing that while there will be action packed shootouts, much of the game focuses on investigation, interrogation, and using good judgement and detective skills to gain the proper outcome.

Clearly Team Bondi is pulling out all the stops to make sure this truly represents the situations a 1950’s detective would encounter. The quick demonstration of how one wrong move or question could close you off from the evidence necessary to solve a case shows how observation and intelligence will be your friends here, rather than just a quick trigger finger. L.A. Noire is smartly positioned to shake things up with innovative gameplay aspects, fantastic graphics, and interesting plot situations. All this makes it look like this May will be an intriguing and mysterious month for gamers everywhere.

Are you excited to step into Cole’s shoes and put L.A.’s criminals behind bars?
