PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed U.K.’s fourth biggest launch of 2023 in terms of physical sales. The Insomniac Games hit surprisingly beat Super Mario Bros. Wonder to the top spot at retail last week. Digital sales data has yet to be reported.
Spider-Man 2 PS5 launch sales sitting just behind multiplatform hits like Hogwarts Legacy
Both Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder had only been on the market for one day before charts closed but the latter released to a much wider audience on the Switch. Considering that, Spider-Man 2 beating Super Mario to the top spot is quite a feat but with digital data missing, it remains to be seen which game had a bigger launch.
Nevertheless, GamesIndustry.biz reports that Spider-Man 2’s physical sales are only sitting behind the year’s biggest hits in the U.K. like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, EA Sports FC24, and Hogwarts Legacy.
Speaking strictly in terms of PlayStation exclusives, Spider-Man 2’s physical launch in the U.K. is 3% lower than the PS5 launch of God of War Ragnarok. However, with more people buying digitally as time progresses, this percentage may not mean much. In fact, GamesIndustry.biz rightfully points out that Ragnarok launched on a Wednesday and had three days on the market unlike Spider-Man 2.
