Avalanche Software has unfortunately confirmed a Hogwarts Legacy delay for PS4 and Xbox One. This follows prior delays for the game, with the latest delay for both platforms having been announced in December 2022. Hogwarts Legacy was supposed to release on April 4, 2023, but that has been pushed to a new date.
Hogwarts Legacy continues its struggle on last-gen consoles
We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the globe. The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms and we need more time to do this. The official Hogwarts Legacy account on Twitter has revealed that the new release date for the game on PS4 is May 5, 2023. Since the tweet might not appear for you (since Twitter’s API is down at the moment), it reads:
We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the globe. The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms and we need more time to do this. Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PS4 and Xbox One May 5, 2023.
This calls into question whether Hogwarts Legacy is really suited for last-gen consoles and how much Avalanche Software has had to rebuild the engine and/or lower the graphics to make sure that it can run smoothly on PS4. At the very least, it hasn’t been canceled.
Whether this delay will impact the game’s release on Nintendo Switch is not yet clear at this time, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it did.
In the meantime, Hogwarts Legacy still holds the top spot in the UK charts for the fourth week running, above Metroid Prime Remastered and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
