The long-awaited Elden Ring DLC expansion has been announced by FromSoftware, with Shadow of the Erdtree revealed as being “currently in development.”
Elden Ring DLC has been heavily rumored for some time now, though previous speculation about a major new update to the game concluded with the release of its free Colosseum PVP update. However, Shadow of the Erdtree will be more than a small update, and will finally add a fully-fledged expansion to the RPG.

Little information about the upcoming expansion was revealed by the company, save for some concept art related to the DLC. A message from the official Elden Ring Twitter account reads: “Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together.”

The expansion announcement comes only a few days after Elden Ring’s one-year anniversary, with it proving to be a huge hit for FromSoftware. By the end of 2022, the RPG had broken The Last of Us 2’s Game of the Year record, and most recently pipped God of War Ragnarok to the post for the D.I.C.E 2023 GOTY award.
FromSoftware didn’t reveal when Shadow of the Erdtree would be released, though a tweet from the company’s official account stated that it was “a little ahead,” indicating that it could be some time before it will be released.
