Several threads on the Hogwarts Legacy Reddit have criticized the game for having a lack of pale skin tones in character creation. Some fans say they want to be able to recreate themselves (or some alternate version of Draco Malfoy), but the options don’t let them do that at the moment.
The lack of pale skin tones in Hogwarts Legacy could be due to poor lighting
Combing through the comments in the two Reddit threads on the subject (here and here), some fans are disappointed that the palest skin tone options are several shades darker than their own skin color. Both threads were temporarily taken down, likely due to their controversial nature, but were restored by a moderator.
In particular, one user who self-describes as being “English and pale” hoped that the game would have represented this section of the population better. Another person from “the very northern part of a Nordic country” also writes that “the skin colours are nowhere near my real life white, vampire-y, near translucent skin.” One player also points to the lack of paler skin tones in terms of Asian characters as well.
That said, some other commenters have responded by saying that the lighting in the character creator is actually at fault and that the character looks more tan there than in the game. Either way, many are asking Avalanche Software to include paler skin tones in a future patch.
On the flipside, the game’s character creation has been generally praised for including a wider range of hairstyles, with one popular tweet noting that it gets “black folks hair right.”
