Assassin’s Creed Mirage Devs Finally Heard Fan Requests for a Return to Series Roots

Assassin’s Creed Mirage developers say they finally heard one of the most popular fan requests in recent years: a fresh return to the series’ roots. Assassin’s Creed has not seen a traditional outing in the same vein as its original games in the last six years, but the deviation began much earlier when Ubisoft started toying with the original formula as the series stagnated.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage won’t be an open-world RPG

Ubisoft previously said that AC Mirage will break away from the open-world RPG formula of recent years, which many considered a time sink. Creative director Stéphane Boudon reiterated this in a new interview with GamesRadar, stating that although AC Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla were popular, it became clear that a lot of fans craved more focused stories.

“Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla – they are all great games with the promise to live an epic journey in a strong fantasy,” Boudon said. “Their scopes have been calibrated to fulfil those ambitions as they all embrace the RPG mechanics. But amongst our fans, we started hearing the desire for a character driven story, focused on the core pillars of the first ACs in a more intimate scale.”

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will release in 2023.
