Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe is the most mysterious of the titles announced at today’s Ubisoft Forward 2022 showcase. The brief teaser shows a wooden sculpture hanging from a tree that instantly brings to mind the Blair Witch Project. This, paired with the name “hexe,” seem to point to this being a title involving witchcraft.

The tweet that came alongside the Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe trailer gave us the hint “we work in the dark.” Along with the teaser, this lays it on pretty thick that this game will have something to do with witches.
More than likely, Hexe is a spin-off that replaces the Assassin Brotherhood with a coven. The relationship between the Assassins and the templar isn’t unlike the one we’ve seen between witches and witch hunters in other media, which makes the concept a good fit for the series.
Unfortunately, we really didn’t get any hints as to what the game might be about other than the rough concept. Even the relatively vague Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red teaser gave us more to work with. We hope Hexe takes us somewhere interesting, like Salem during the witch trials of 1692-1693.
In other news, The Division Heartland was finally revealed, and Midnight Suns got a new release date.
