Knowing how to clear cache on PS5 can be very useful when troubleshooting issues like freezing, disconnecting, or long loading times. However, this useful function is buried deep within the console’s Safe Mode, which itself can be tricky to find. Thankfully, this little guide is here to make the process much easier. Here’s how to clear cache on PS5.
How to clear the PS5 cache
To clear cache on PS5, users must:
- Turn off your PS5.
- It should be fully turned off, not in Rest Mode.
- Hold the power button on the PS5 until you hear a second beep.
- The second beep will play after 5-7 seconds.
- Connect your controller using the USB cable.
- Press the PS Button on the controller.
- Use the D-pad to navigate down to “5. Clear Cache and Rebuild Database” and select it.
- Choose “1. Clear System Software Cache.”
- Select “OK.”
Once the cache is cleared, some options like HDR Brightness will need to be set again. This is totally normal, so don’t fret about your saved data being lost, etc.
What does clearing the PS5 cache do?
Clearing the PS5 cache removes temporary files and data that are stored on the console. These files are intended to help improve performance but it’s possible for them to become corrupted over time, causing issues like freezing and/or connectivity issues. As the PS5 becomes more and more well-used over the years, there’s more potential for corruption.
When reaching out to a game’s customer support to try and fix issues, it’s normal to be asked to clear your system’s cache. This is a standard troubleshooting tip.
