Backbone One PlayStation Edition is Likely to be the Closest We Get to PS Vita 2

The popular Backbone One mobile controller will be getting an official Playstation Edition and it is likely to be the closest we ever get to a PS Vita 2. The PS5-inspired PlayStation Edition will only be available for iPhone users despite the availability of Android controllers from the same company.

The Backbone One – PlayStation Edition has been specifically designed to enhance the experience for those playing PS5 and PS4 games through the PS Remote Play app on iPhone. It also works with other game streaming services and App Store games, such as Genshin Impact, Fantasian, and Call of Duty: Mobile, as long as they support controllers. Players will need to download the Backbone App, which will have PlayStation-specific integrations too. This includes a dedicated row inside the app that highlights new releases and updates from the PlayStation Store. Backbone recommends an iPhone running on iOS 15.0 or later to get the best PS Remote Play experience.

The appearance of the PlayStation Edition has been inspired by the PS5 console, with the white and black colors, materials, and finishes, including the transparent face buttons, being influenced by the DualSense controller. The controller can also be connected directly to the Pulse 3D headset for sound. The controller won’t need charging as it is powered directly by the player’s iPhone and players can even charge their device while they’re playing with a passthrough Lightning port.

Backbone One – PlayStation Edition will launch in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, although more countries will follow at a later date.

In other news, Warner Bros. has promised there will be no more progress resets for MultiVersus. Elsewhere, today’s PS5 System Update beta has added 1440p support, game lists, and other social features.
