New John Romero Game

New John Romero Game Announced, Doom Creator Making FPS With Major Publisher

A new John Romero game has been revealed by the noted co-creator of Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, and Quake. As described in a tweet, the game will be an “all-new FPS with an original, new IP” and will be supported by an unknown “major publisher.” Though not many details were disclosed beyond that, Romero Games is hiring new talent, especially any developers with Unreal Engine 5 experience.

What we know so far about the new John Romero game

Romero Games is being very tight-lipped on what this new shooter will be. According to the FAQ on the developer’s website, “it’s way too early to share any other information on it” apart from the fact that’s it’s new, a shooter, and that it’s working with a major publisher. That the game will be a first-person shooter is not a surprise given that the developer states on the site’s landing page that it is focused on the genre.

As the tweet indicates, there are numerous positions available at the studio, with many senior roles yet to be filled including Senior Multiplayer Programmer, Senior Graphics Programmer, Lead Level Designer, and Lead Character Artist, and Lead Animator. Along with four other roles, Romero Games says that there even more positions coming soon, hinting that this new FPS is looking to be a huge investment.

Founded by John Romero and his wife Brenda Romero, the developer based in Galway, Ireland was founded in late 2015. Its first game was a HD re-skin of Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate’s Hideout, before moving onto Gunman Taco Truck (2017), SIGIL (2019), and Empire of Sin (2020). Empire of Sin was published by Paradox Interactive and is currently available on Xbox Game Pass. Sigil, an expansion mod to the original Doom, has been successful enough for Romero Games to start work on Sigil 2 for Doom 2.

In other news, Sony is being sued over the PS5 crashing defect, and some players who previously claimed the FF7 Remake have been unable to download Intergrade through PS Plus.
