Gran Turismo 7 got its latest update today. Update 1.07 introduces a Broadcast mode that makes it easier for Youtube streamers to create game videos without worrying about potential copyright infringement notices, as well as several other “improvements and adjustments”. The problem is that an issue within the update has caused Polyphony Digital to take down the game’s servers while it’s fixed.
When will the Gran Turismo 7 servers be back up?
Gran Turismo 7 update 1.07 was released around 5am PT today, March 17. Polyphony Digital discovered “an issue” within the update and extended the Server Maintenance period. At the time of writing, the servers are still not available. The developer has said they will “notify everyone as soon as possible when this is likely to be completed. We apologize for this inconvenience and ask for your patience while we work to resolve the issue.” This statement was made at 6am PT and no further news has been given yet.
The problem with the servers being down is that this makes the vast majority of the game inaccessible. Most of the game’s modes, including GT Campaign, GT Simulation, Scapes, GT Cafe, and GT Sport, all require an online connection to prevent players from modifying save data and cheating. The only mode that does not require an internet connection is Arcade.
Update 1.07 was due to add a Broadcast mode to the game. Turning this on removes all music that could potentially trigger a copyrights infringement notice on Youtube, making it far easier for players to stream the game on that platform. Other alterations include fixing problems with car settings, putting specified tires on vehicles during select events, and problems with storage space for temporary data. Unfortunately one fix has caused quite a lot of frustration with fans as credit payouts for events inside ‘World Circuits’ have been adjusted. While a couple of events have seen their payments increased 14x, the majority of others have been nerfed significantly. All of the patch notes can be viewed on the Gran Turismo website.
In other news, Netflix’s Resident Evil series has gotten a release date and viewers only have to wait until July to catch a glimpse. Elsewhere, Sony has acknowledged the sexism allegations from former employee Emma Majo and eight other women but still insist Majo has no evidence to back up those claims.
