We’ve seen the Sense controllers and we’ve seen the headset alongside a game announcement or two, but we’ve yet to receive a PlayStation VR 2 release date or even a window. Sony has been tight-lipped about when it expects to release the next-gen VR device, presumably because it hasn’t exactly been able to keep up with PS5’s demand as it is, and doesn’t want to overpromise and underdeliver. But one leaker claims to know when the company plans to release PSVR 2.
When will PSVR 2 release?
According to YouTuber PSVR Without Parole (via ResetEra), who has a decent track record, Sony plans to release PSVR 2 sometime in Q1 2023. The leaker previously revealed some PSVR 2 tech specs correctly and reported on Horizon: Call of the Mountain before it was announced. However, take this with a huge grain of salt because insiders can get things wrong, too, and a release that far into the new generation doesn’t sound very likely.
If PSVR Without Parole is correct once again, however, then this news will be disappointing for fans who hoped to get their hands on PSVR 2 in holiday 2022. Previous reports suggested that the device will enter production next quarter for year-end shipments but don’t get your hopes up. The original PSVR was revealed in March 2014 and didn’t release until October 2016.
Opinion: PSVR 2 might suffer from ongoing component shortages
Zarmena writes… It’s unclear if Sony has a Plan B when it comes to PSVR 2 especially in light of ongoing component shortages, but as far as this report is concerned, I have mixed feelings. A Q1 2023 release does seem a ways away, but isn’t outside the realm of possibility. I personally believe that Sony will aim to get the PSVR 2 out in time for Christmas 2022 but my expectations are always in check.
In other news, GTA Trilogy has received yet another massive patch, and FromSoftware believes high difficulty is a part of its identity.
