Report: Call of Duty 2022, 2023, and Warzone 2 Will Still Release on PS5

The next three games in the Call of Duty franchise will release for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, meaning that the PS5 won’t miss out on CoD games in the near future, it has been reported. However, past those next three games, it’s unclear whether Activision Blizzard will continue releasing the series’ games on PlayStation. With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard likely closing in the next 18 months, there is a chance that the tech conglomerate could change the billion-dollar franchise to an Xbox exclusive at a later date.

When will Call of Duty no longer release on PS5?

Specifically, Microsoft has stated that it will honor Activision Blizzard’s existing deals with PlayStation “for at least the next two years.” According to four insiders speaking to Bloomberg, Activision had already signed a deal with Sony to release several new Call of Duty titles for the PlayStation. This means that upcoming titles such as the unannounced sequel to Modern Warfare will still release for Playstation. The report reveals that Treyarch is also currently developing a new title.

However, the future after that is shaky. While Xbox head Phil Spencer stated that it would honor its existing contracts with Sony, he hasn’t said what would happen after those deals end. While some experts argue that turning Call of Duty into an Xbox exclusive would be illegal, there’s no stopping Microsoft from seeing the end of its contracts and simply not renewing them. It also doesn’t change the fact that Activision is still refusing to acknowledge the labor rights of QA testers at Warzone studio Raven Software.

In other news, Electronic Arts is currently working on three new Star Wars games. Rumors indicate that GTA: Vice City Definitive Edition may be coming to PlayStation Now.
