Take-Two CEO Thinks GTA Trilogy Launch Issues Were Just a ‘Glitch’

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, seemingly unaware of the internet, told investors that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition launch woes were “just a glitch in the beginning” that was “resolved.” One of the worst-reviewed games of 2021 (considering both critic and user reviews), the GTA Trilogy came with a plethora of issues that spurred numerous memes and resulted in players demanding refunds. Such was its state on PC that the game was temporarily pulled from sale and the legacy titles were restored.

GTA Trilogy sold well despite issues

On CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street,” Zelnick was specifically quizzed about GTA Trilogy‘s “defects,” and was reminded of his previous statements pertaining to Cyberpunk 2077 in which he said that Take-Two would never release a game in a poor state. Zelnick reasoned that GTA Trilogy was not a “new” title and the remastering process hit a snafu that was addressed. He also revealed that the title “has done just great for the company” so he’s “very excited.”

Opinion: *Narrator voice* GTA Trilogy issues were not a glitch

Zarmena writes… I didn’t expect the CEO of Take-Two to go on record and admit that his company put out a hot mess, which is what GTA Trilogy was. However, in light of his past statements, it reflects poorly upon Zelnick to not acknowledge that the game launched in an unacceptable state especially considering his own past statements. Sometimes, just sometimes, it doesn’t have to be about impressing investors. Add to this Grove Street Games’ boss Thomas Williamson publishing sarcasm-filled tweets about GTA Trilogy‘s reception, and it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

In other news, Battlefield 2042 got a much-needed update today, and Activision Blizzard’s management claims it has no idea that its employees are protesting and striking.
