Slitherine and Black Lab Games is releasing the battle-scale turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector on consoles next month. The game will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on December 2, though a PS5 version wasn’t announced. The console version will have an updated UI and control scheme specifically designed for consoles.
The latest game in the Warhammer franchise is set in the grim darkness of the battlefields of the 41st Millennium. The campaign takes place during the aftermath of the Devastation of Baal. The honor of the Blood Angels is at stake and the only way they’ll be able to preserve it is for Sergeant Carleon and his unit to purge the Tyranid infestation from Baal Secundus. The campaign is also the first time players get to meet the Primaris Marines.
The campaign has 20 missions that include fast-paced turn-based combat while in charge of units like the Sanguinary Priest, the Librarian Dreadnought, and the Hive Tyrant. There are more than 60 abilities and 50 weapons to use to achieve your objective. Each of the factions also has a Momentum system that allows the unit to Surge. During a Surge, units can chain superhuman actions specific to the faction or take the opportunity to upgrade their abilities. Each faction also has a specific air support ability that can be triggered using Command Points. For example, the Blood Angel’s Stormraven offers a missile barrage or the placement of a veteran Assault Marines unit behind enemy lines.
As well as the campaign, there is Skirmish mode that lets players pick a map before waging war as either the Blood Angels or the Tyranids. The mode allows for units, heroes, and loadouts to be completely customized. Battlesector will also have multiplayer modes available.
Post-launch content was also revealed during the announcement. Upcoming DLC will add new factions, maps, and modes and the first two Elite Units will arrive on December 2, the same day the game launches on consoles. The Blood Angels Elite DLC will include Assault Terminators with a Deep Strike ability and The Sanguinary Guard with a Jump Pack. Meanwhile, the Tyranid Elites DLC will include the Broodlord who are melee specialists that can disrupt the minds of nearby enemies. The Hive Guard will also be included, specialising in ranged attacks while heavily armored. Slitherine also promised a glimpse at an upcoming faction due to arrive in 2022 if players tune in to the Slitherine Home of the Wargamers Live + event on December 14.
