Sony has released a new update for PS Remote Play, allowing players to use the DualSense controllers on devices running on Android 12 or later. Previously, the feature was only available on iOS devices, with Android limited to the previous DualShock 4 controller. This means that all supported devices including iPhone and iPad, Android, Mac, and Windows PC can now pair with the DualSense controller for Remote Play.

The update also features new support for assorted features on the DualShock 4 controller. Namely, PS Remote Play will now support the controller’s touchpad, motion sensor, rumble, and battery indicator features. It’s important to note, however, that some or all of these PS Remote Play features may not be available on older operating systems such as Android 10.
The PS Remote Play app allows players to stream games from their PS4 and PS5 consoles to any device, be it a smartphone or computer. The feature was released for PC in 2016, and was initially a near-exact copy of a similar function that existed on the PS Vita. Sony has since updated PS Remote Play and added the ability to stream PS5 games. You can even use the Remote Play app on your PS4 console to play your PS5.
Interestingly, there was a survey going around back in 2020 that asked users how they felt if Remote Play came to Nintendo Switch, as well as Apple and Android TVs. Among other questions, the survey also gauged users’ interest in a possible “slim” portable version of the DualShock controller. Neither of these has yet to come to fruition, however.
In other news, Sony recently opened up the PS Direct online store in the UK. In addition to the already existing German PS Direct store, the company plans to expand its direct-to-consumer offering to the rest of Europe in the near future. The PS Direct store sells PS5 and DualSense controllers, as well as other Sony hardware without the use of a retail middleman.
