Resident Evil Village Free DLC

Resident Evil Village Sells 5 Million Units, Some Additional DLC Will Be Free

Resident Evil Village has now sold 5 million units across the world. The news from Capcom was so recent that the latest figure failed to make it into any of Capcom’s financial figures released earlier this week, although these did confirm at least some if not all of the future Resident Evil Village DLC will be free.

Resident Evil Village‘s 5 million number included both digital and physical sales. The game’s success comes just a couple of weeks after Capcom also announced Resident Evil 7: Biohazard managed to reach 10 million units sold, the first time any Resident Evil game has hit this milestone. The publisher attributes Resident Evil 7‘s success to promotions that ran when Resident Evil Village was released, including a bundle for both games. The franchise as a whole has sold 120 million units between all of its games. There are no details on what the free Resident Evil Village DLC is likely to entail, but it is certainly going to help the game to shift more units in the future.

This isn’t the only franchise to be successful for Capcom of late. Monster Hunter: World reached a milestone of 20 million units, including the sales of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition. Monster Hunter: Rise for the Nintendo Switch isn’t doing too badly either, reaching a total of 7.5 million units last month. This franchise has now reached a total of 78 million units sold.

Other franchises continue to sell well too. Street Fighter has now sold 47 million copies between all of its games, while Devil May Cry has reached 24 million sales across all titles. However, Capcom’s release slate for the rest of the financial year is incredibly bare. With the exception of Monster Hunter: Rise being released on PC in January, there are no major releases from the publisher before the next financial year begins in April 2022. They don’t seem to expect this to have a massive impact on their earnings, though. We’ll just have to wait and see what Capcom has planned for next year.
