While we knew the popular social deduction game was headed to consoles at some point, Innersloth has finally announced the Among Us release date for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One digital editions will be December 14. The numerous physical releases of Among Us will have differing release dates depending on region and version, but the first of these will also arrive on December 14.
The developer had promised Among Us would arrive on consoles by the end of the year and it’s one of the few titles this year that wasn’t delayed out of its projected release window. When it arrives on the digital stores, it will set players back $4.99, the same as it costs on PC and Nintendo Switch already. There will be online multiplayer and cross-play across both platforms too. Those who purchase Among Us on PS4 or PS5 will be able to make use of an exclusive Ratchet & Clank skin, hat, and pet.
The release dates for the physical editions of Among Us are slightly different than the digital version. The Crewmate Edition will be the first of these to arrive, beginning with Europe on December 14. It will then release in Japan and South Korea on December 16. Those in the US, Canada, and Latin America will have to wait a bit longer as the Crewmate Edition won’t arrive in these regions until January 11, 2022. The reason for the discrepancy in release dates is because of “regional shipping restrictions.” Meanwhile, the Impostor Edition and Ejected Edition aren’t scheduled to release anywhere until spring 2022. Apparently “someone keeps turning the lights off in the warehouse, but everything is probably fine.”
Among Us features a group of players who need to complete tasks so their spaceship is ready for take off. This is made far more difficult when one or more impostors amongst the crew are aiming to kill everyone else. These must be identified before the spaceship leaves. The gameplay hook has become so infamous there have been several attempts to mimic it, the latest of which was Fortnite‘s Impostors game mode. Epic Games has since teased a potential collaboration with Innersloth.
