Witcher 3 PS5 Rating

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition Rated for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in Europe, News Likely Coming Soon

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition has gotten a PS5 rating from PEGI. As spotted by Gematsu, the new-gen version of the game was also rated for Xbox Series X/S. Seeing as we already knew about The Witcher 3 eventually coming to the new-gen consoles, this wouldn’t be too notable in itself. However, the interesting part comes in the release dates published with the PEGI rating: apparently both of the new-gen versions were due to be released today, October 19th. While that hasn’t happened, this likely means we’ll be getting an announcement from CD Projekt Red soon.

Unsurprisingly The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has been rated 18 by PEGI, which is the same rating received by all previous versions of the game. The rating has been given for “infrequent violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters.” The full PEGI rating can be seen below, but be aware it includes NSFW language and some potential spoilers:

Content specific issues

The game features frequent strong violence, occasional scenes of violence against vulnerable characters and frequent strong language. Geralt is able to dismember, decapitate, disembowel and bisect his enemies during gameplay combat. Notable scenes of strong violence include, but are not limited to, a raven burrowing into a man’s eye socket and bursting from the back of his shattered skull and a man’s face melting and sizzling after being struck by a fire spell. Violence against vulnerable and defenceless persons includes people being bound to and burnt at the stake, and a child being fed upon by a vampire. The word ‘fuck’ is used frequently and ‘cunt’ is used several times.

Other issues

Geralt is featured in sex scenes with several different women; the couples’ genitals are not visible during intercourse, though there are other moments of full nudity.

The last update from CD Projekt suggested the game was still aiming for the end of this year but could be delayed into 2022 due to “lessons learned” after the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The October 19 release date on the rating is likely to be an old release window, and CD Projekt RED hasn’t said anything further about the new-gen versions of The Witcher 3. Regardless, the appearance of the rating suggests news could be coming soon. As always, we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear anything more.
