David Hayter, the man behind the gruff growl of Metal Gear Solid’s Solid Snake, wants to play Logan in Insomniac’s recently announced PS5 exclusive, Marvel’s Wolverine. Revealed as part of yesterday’s PlayStation Showcase, only a brief teaser of the upcoming title was shown without any voiceover work, leaving many fans wondering who would give the character his signature attitude. One fan expressed interest in seeing David Hater step into the claws, to which Snake himself replied with a quote tweet, “I admit… I was thinking that.”

It’s unknown if the role of James “Logan” Howlett, aka Wolverine, has been cast by Insomniac yet. Information about the newly announced title says that it is in “very early development,” and the cinematic teaser didn’t contain any voice work at all. In fact, it didn’t even show Wolverine’s face. All we saw was his back, wearing a plaid shirt and cowboy hat as he sits at a bar, and then his fist as the character’s adamantium claws slide out from between his knuckles.
A number of people have been tagging Insomniac in the suggestion, so the developer has undoubtedly seen the fan requests, as well as the interest expressed by Hayter himself. While perhaps best known for his role as Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, Hayter has also had roles in a number of other titles.
Interestingly enough, Hayter also has a close connection to Wolverine through film. He was a writer on 2000’s X-Men and 2002’s X2. More recently, he’s worked as a writer and producer on Netflix’s Warrior Nun, as well as voicing King Shark in CW’s The Flash series.
Hugh Jackman is the face that typically comes to mind for Wolverine. The actor portrayed the character in multiple live action adaptations starting with 2000’s X-Men and ending with his role in Logan in 2017. While Insomniac will no doubt present their own unique take on the character—much like the studio did with Peter Parker and Miles Morales in Marvel’s Spider-Man—fans think that David Hayter can bring a new life to Wolverine, doing his attitude and storied comic history justice.
Who do you think should play Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine? Do you agree that David Hayter would make a good choice?
