CD Projekt RED is partnering with CMON Games in yet another way to explore the world of Cyberpunk 2077‘s Night City. This time, fans have a brand-new card game to look forward to. Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game will launch on an unspecified date in 2020.
The studio announced the news today in a blog post on the game’s website. This project serves as a standalone, physical card game that “thrusts players into the dark alleyways of Night City.” At present, the finer details, such as a solid launch date and price, are unknown. However, a premise and basic information about the card game itself have been revealed.
Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game will see players take on the role of Fixers, Night City’s “databrokers.” The primary goal is to recruit cyberpunks, provided them with the necessary tools and upgrades, then send them on various missions. Successful missions award players with Street Cred, while the recruited cyberpunks who make it back in one piece are promoted as Veterans.
It’s not as simple as it may seem. There will be plenty of strategy involved, too. For instance, players will need to decide what to spend their money on. Some cards will feature no-brainers, things that necessitate a purchase. However, others will have to be cast aside, sacrificed for funds in an effort to purchase new cards with different types of benefits.
This won’t be CMON Games’ first rodeo with a video game franchise. Recently, the company conducted an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign for Bloodborne: The Board Game. Before then, CMON announced plans to produce a God of War card game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is slated to release next year for the PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on April 16, 2020. Preorders for the base game and the Collector’s Edition are currently live in stores and online.
