Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 Is Something Remedy Entertainment Has Been Hoping to Make for Years

Remedy Entertainment has been quietly working towards a sequel to 2010’s Alan Wake for quite some time, but the pieces have not fallen into place. During an interview with IGN, Remedy Creative Director, Sam Lake talked candidly about the possibility of an Alan Wake 2.

Lake told IGN:

I want to make it. It’s a curious thing. At this point, so much time has passed. I feel that the bar is higher in some ways. It needs to be done right if it’s ever done. Everything needs to click into place, which is really hard to make it happen. So many things, for these big games to be greenlit, need to be aligned. But I’m hoping that someday [it can be made].

I kind of feel, personally, that on and off, ever since the first game, I’ve been working on the sequel.

The studio has been working on ideas for Alan Wake 2 that ultimately became other games. Remedy is known for its interesting single-player adventures, like Max Payne, Quantum Break, and the upcoming Control, and the absence of Alan Wake 2 has been a thorn in fans’ sides for years. We did get a pseudo-sequel/spin-off of Alan Wake called Alan Wake’s American Nightmare in 2012, which was well-received. We recently discovered that Remedy reacquired the publishing rights to the Alan Wake IP from Microsoft, making the possibility of a sequel seem more plausible than ever.

While it’s comforting to know that an Alan Wake sequel has been considered, it’s unclear if the project will ever see the light of day. The team’s ideas have spun into some interesting games, but the community’s requests for more Alan Wake cannot be overlooked.

Remedy has wrapped up development on Control, which will be out on August 27, 2019. Perhaps the team will go back to the drawing board after it ships and finally get the ball rolling on Alan Wake 2.
