Yooka-Laylee Comic Book Needs Your Money to Be Made

On October 17, 2018, publisher Dreamprism Press is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new comic book spinoff for Playtonic‘s Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor, Yooka-Laylee.

The comic will be both written and illustrated by D.M. Cumbo, who previously worked in the video games industry on projects such as the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series. This book, which is planned to be 120 pages long, hardcover, in full color, and with hand-sewn bindings would to be the publisher’s first physical printing. It will have a goal of $40,000.

The story of the comic, called Kracklestone, will be set after the events of the Yooka-Laylee video game. Yooka and Laylee are once again opposing Dr. Quack, this time trying to beat him to a supposed invincibility artifact that is hidden within a new tome world.

The Kickstarter campaign will run from October 17 to November 16, 2018, and its rewards will aim for a June 2019 release. A digital copy of Kracklestone will be included in a $15 tier, the physical version will be $30, a Kickstarter-exclusive version will be $50, and a Grand Tome Collector’s Edition will be $75.

IGN, which was sent a press release for an exclusive reveal, published the following quote from Cumbo:

I’ve had a blast writing and a drawing a new story for Yooka and Laylee. The book blends the game’s spirit of playful exploration and character-driven storytelling. The Playtonic Games crew worked on a lot of the games I loved as a kid, so it’s pretty surreal to now have the chance to work with their characters
