Hikaru-Utada Kingdom Hearts III

Skrillex and Hikaru Utada Come Together for Kingdom Hearts III Theme Song

The lead up to Kingdom Hearts III is filled with gameplay, cross-over goodness, screenshots, and recently a list of voice actors. In keeping with the auditory news, Square Enix has given us more information regarding Kingdom Hearts III‘s opening theme song, titled “Face My Fears.” It will be a collaboration between longtime Kingdom Hearts theme musician Hikaru Utada and dubstep artist Skrillex.

As a Grammy-award winner, Skrillex certainly has some level of acclaim, although the dubstep wave has since came and went. Although Skrillex’s music is characterized by dubstep’s hallmark pronounced baseline and syncopated rhythm that creates a sort of palatable screeching sound, that doesn’t mean the theme is guaranteed to have a dubstep sound to it.

Producer Jason Boyd, aka Poo Bear, also collaborated on the track. Known for working on hip-hop, R&B, and pop music, he’s done a little bit of everything and has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, ranging from Lupe Fiasco to Justin Bieber.

We’ll see how this mix of sound comes together when Kingdom Hearts III releases on January 29, 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Until then, you can take an extensive look at the Toy Story and Frozen worlds in Kingdom Hearts or get a look at a boss battle.
