Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is Coming Next Year

It’s time for the announcements to start rolling out of Tokyo Game Show 2018, and the event seems like a real doozy this year. For example, who would have ever expected Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, which was super divisive even when it was fresh, would ever get a remaster? Yet here we are, and it’s happening in 2019.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition has been announced for the PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch, with a simple window of 2019. It appears to be a nice, HD version of the Nintendo GameCube cult classic, with the added support of online play.

What will be interesting is seeing how Crystal Chronicles is made to gel with modern hardware, as the “second screen experience” of connecting Game Boy Advance units to the GameCube was one of the big hooks of the original. Using the GBA as a controller, groups of four could not only independently manage their inventory in real time, but also keep track of individual level goals that added a subtle competitive element.

Presumably that won’t be as much of an issue during online play, but how will Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition handle local multiplayer? We may just find out as Tokyo Game Show 2018 progresses.
