Now Loading: Red Dead Redemption 2 Features You Want

2018 is set to be a huge year for video games. Perhaps the biggest release will be Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2. The Grand Theft Auto developer practically prints money with their titles, and it’s already one of the most highly anticipated games despite only a few details being available.

That’s why the question we posed in this week’s Now Loading was “We finally got a firm release date for Red Dead Redemption 2! What do you want to see out of the highly anticipated PS4 title?”

What Features Do You Want to See?

My hope is just that the online component keeps players wanting to come back like Grand Theft Auto Online does now for players. The original Red Dead Redemption had a pretty fun online mode that did eventually get a bit boring, but with the way Rockstar has been able to continue pumping out content for Grand Theft Auto V, I’m hopeful that they can do the same for RDR 2.

I didn't really care for the original for a long list of reasons, but mostly it just didn't catch my attention and keep me wanting to play more. I guess in RDR2, I just want more reasons to stick around.

I want Red Dead Redemption 2 to be to Red Dead Redemption what Grand Theft Auto V was to Grand Theft Auto IV. Up the ante, up the stakes, up the world design, and missions, and tiny little details. Grand Theft Auto V launched on last generation consoles and was highly impressive. One can only imagine the scope and scale of Red Dead Redemption 2launching on current gen consoles. I want it to set a bar for gaming. I want it to surprise and awe me more often than not. Honestly, I felt that Red Dead Redemption was an absolutely incredible game (Westerns aren't explored nearly enough in gaming), and if they can deliver the same kind of feeling I got playing that eight years ago, I'll be stoked.

Disclaimer: I don't normally set my expectations so astronomically high for games, but I've got faith in Rockstar and what they do. Pushing out the release date to October wasn't for nothing, and they'll make this the best game they possibly can.

I just really want interesting mission design. I feel like Rockstar is a very talented studio that has a lot of strengths (cinematography, crafting characters, fun gameplay), but they also tend to have some rather bland missions that wind up being more frustrating than fun. I've quit playing more of their games than I've actually finished due to getting fed up with boring story missions, and it's really too bad since I've enjoyed so many other aspects of their titles.

Whatever you do, just don't make it overwhelming like the original. It's rare for me to not finish a game, but I couldn't be bothered with the original RDR after a while. I also recall a now defunct game stats tracking site using a sample of regular players to point out that majority had not even finished the story. So I know I wasn't in the minority.
