Need for Speed Payback is set to bring the Need for Speed series back to racing prominence when it releases November 10 (although EA and Origin Access members can play 10 hours of the game now), and Electronic Arts have released the game’s launch trailer. The video may only last a minute, but there’s plenty of arcade action and flair on display. It showcases the game’s several characters, including the three playable racers.

Ghost Games also described Payback as a “CaRPG,” and while that phrase is endearingly corny, it also does a great job of describing how it treats its open-world. No matter what the player is doing, be it racing or just roaming around the environment in search for billboards to break, they’re constantly making progress by earning in-game currency and car parts. As I mentioned before customization is a big part of the game, and players will need that money to improve their cars. Beyond performance, there’s also a ton of fun visual customization tools that allows players express themselves (for example, I gave my car a really cool green smoke).
The opening hours of Need for Speed Payback are very promising. The story provides enough fun to motivate the player to keep racing, yet never gets in the way of the actual action. When paired with some really enjoyable arcade gameplay, it results in an open-world racing game that has a lot of content to offer. From finding derelicts to getting to star in cinematic action scenes that seem straight out of Fast and Furious, Need for Speed Payback has something to offer everyone.
