Immortal: Unchained is a Souls-inspired third-person action shooter/hardcore RPG releasing in Q2 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Sold Out and developer Toadman Interactive announced today. It will be available both physically and digitally on consoles.
Set in a dark, sci-fi universe, Immortal: Unchained is “a unique take on a well-known sub-genre,” and features a variety of weapons for ranged and melee combat, which you’ll use to take down enemies and bosses. “Immortal’s ranged combat mechanics allow for tactical point-of-contact shooting, and create strategic alternatives in instances when slowing down or disarming an enemy may be more beneficial than simply blasting them away,” the description adds.
Here’s what to expect from the story:
Featuring writers from Battlefield 1 and The Witcher comes a story the player will have to piece together themselves, as the central character sets off with no memory of their past. Unwillingly unchained by the warden, the player’s skills are put to the test, given only the instruction that they must stop the end of the world. Other characters in the game may shed light on the situation, but the reality is not always clear, as characters are always operating on their own agendas. Discovering the truth is just as much of a challenge as the gameplay – and just as much of a reward.
On the PlayStation Blog, Game Designer Sebastian Thorwaldsson explained that you’re protected by the Monolith, which is an ancient structure that oversees the flow of the Cosmos. It will be able to restore you when you die, but your collected bounty will drop where you died. He added, “This lets you learn from every mistake, to come back to the encounter you failed with additional knowledge for your next attempt. This cycle of defeat, pattern recognition, and finally victory is what we believe to be one of the core pillars of the genre.”
