Rocket League Dev: ‘We Would Do Whatever We Need to Do’ to Enable Cross-Network Play With PS4

Back in JulyRocket League developer Psyonix revealed that the work to enable Cross-Network Play between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was complete, and they were just waiting on the go-ahead from Sony. A year later, the Nintendo Switch version of Rocket League will support cross-play, but Sony still isn’t letting it happen.

In a new interview with Polygon, Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham revealed that “PlayStation has not yet granted us permission,” they’re “hopeful that being able to play cross network is still something we can go for,” they think cross-play is the future of the industry, and they run all the servers in-house.

Asked why Sony would turn them down for cross-play, Dunham said Psyonix is willing to do whatever it takes to making it happen – they just need to know what that is:

I wish I had the answer to that. The only thing that we know is that we can’t do it yet. I can tell you this: From Psyonix, we would do whatever we would need to do to make it possible to be cross-network play with all the other platforms and PlayStation 4. They just need to tell us what that is.

If Sony does give them the go-ahead, “All we have to do is check that box and it would be up and running in less than an hour all over the world. That’s all we need to do.”

Since there are no technical limitations for cross-network play, Dunham says, “Right now it’s just a political barrier we need to help figure out how to crack.”

Do you think Sony should enable cross-network play in Rocket League for PS4?
