The 10 Best Video Game Moms

Every second Sunday of May is a special day for mothers in the United States, as they get a well deserved thank you for all of their hard work. While they should be appreciated every day, it doesn’t make Mother’s Day any less special. This year the holiday falls on May 14, which happens to be today (so if you forgot to purchase a present, you better go out shopping before you finish reading this article). Because of this, we here at PlayStation LifeStyle would like to send thanks to all of the hard working mothers that visit the site, and help make the world so great.

Since we’re a gaming site, we decided to celebrate Mother’s Day in our own way by taking a look at some iconic gaming moms. While some of these characters probably shouldn’t be teaching a parenting class, they all have certain qualities that we can all learn from. Only two rules were in place: A) Since we’re a PlayStation site the video game moms had to appear on a PlayStation console at some point (sorry, Mother Brain) and B) Every character has to be a mother (although that should be pretty obvious).

With that out of the way, check out our list below of the 10 best video game moms!

We hope you enjoyed our look at the 10 best video game moms. While we only highlighted 10 great characters that have peculiar relationships with their children, there’s a ton of other great characters that also happen to be mothers (either biologically or not). So, it’s no knock against them if they didn’t make the list.

Allie

While Allie isn't around long in Ni no Kuni, her tragic passing sets up the entire narrative. She's shown as a passionate single mother that works hard to provide for her son, Oliver, despite having health issues. She even provides Oliver with the doll that would later become Drippy.
Elena Drake

Elena and Drake aren't exactly shown as parent material in early games, but Uncharted 4: A Thief's End changes that. Ever since settling down and having a daughter, Elena has managed to finally mellow out her adventurous husband. In fact, the pair has changed their lives so much that their daughter is shocked to find out about their past exploits.
Joyce Price

Few parents are as good natured as Life is Strange's Joyce Price. Despite having a daughter that clearly is going through a rebellious phase, Joyce always offers up love (and a good breakfast) to her daughter. She's one of the only great people in a town filled with horrible ones.
Ma Cipriani

While never seen on-screen, Ma Cipriani is an important character in both Grand Theft Auto III and Liberty City Stories. As the mother of Toni Cipriani, she often worries about him getting too skinny and insists that he move back in with her. She even ends up putting a hit on Toni in order to make him get his life together. If that's not tough love, then I don't know what is.
Mad Moxxi

One of Borderlands' most popular characters, Moxxi is surprisingly the mother of two children. Both children, Ellie and Scooter, ended up becoming mechanics. Unlike their mother, neither of the children inherited her looks or feminine wiles.
Candy Borowski

Night in the Woods is a game filled with wonderful characters, and Mae's mom, Candy, might be the best of them. Despite her daughter recently dropping out of college and refusing to talk about it, Candy is always understanding and is willing to listen to her troubles. She's a beacon of light in the dark town of Possum Springs. Oh, and eels, honey. Eels.
Sonya Blade

While Sonya Blade has been a Mortal Kombat mainstay since the very beginning, she didn't enjoy motherhood until Mortal Kombat X. Like everyone else, Ms. Blade was won over by Johnny Cage's charm, and this resulted in their daughter—Cassie Cage. While not still together with Johnny, Sonya still cares deeply for her daughter, even if work sometimes gets in the way.
The Boss

The Metal Gear Solid series is filled with great female characters, but Metal Gear Solid 3 might have the best one. Snake's mentor, The Boss, is not only one of the United States' best soldiers, but is also the mother of Revolver Ocelot. It's clear where he got his double-crossing ways from, and it shows that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!
The Queen

Everyone has children for different reasons. Sometimes they really want to be a parent, other times a child is born only to be used as a spiritual vessel for an evil Queen that wants to live forever. That's the case in Ico, and honestly, who are we to judge a parent?
Yohn

One of the best characters from Suikoden Tactics, Yohn suffers from being mute after being summoned from another dimension. Despite the inability to speak, Yohn found love with a man named Walter. This led to the birth of Kyril, who serves as the game's main protagonist. While she can't speak with her loved ones, she still managed to help them out tremendously.
