Farpoint – Everything You Need to Know

Not since the launch of Capcom’s back-to-basics horror revival, Resident Evil 7, have PlayStation VR owners received a AAA experience.

We’ve had the racing facsimile in DriveClub VR — the on-rails thrill ride (Until Dawn: Rush of Blood); the cockpit sim (EVE: Valkyrie); the marquee survival horror experience (RE7) — but it’s almost time for PSVR to expand into one of the industry’s most lucrative genres: the first-person shooter.

RIGS: Mechanised Combat League notwithstanding — it’s more of a futuristic arena shooter than anything else — Sony and developer Impulse Gear are on the verge of launching Farpoint, a sci-fi shooter in which players do battle against grotesque bugs. Part Starship Troopers, part space oddity, Impulse’s bold new IP is built from the ground up with PlayStation VR in mind, and even incorporates the new Aim Controller for added immersion.

So, you’re ready to mow down alien baddies in virtual reality? Not so fast! In anticipation of its launch on May 16, we’ve scoured the four corners of the internet — and the PSLS archives — to compile all the necessary information you could ever need pertaining to Impulse Gear’s sci-fi shooter.

Farpoint deploys for PS4 and PlayStation VR on May 16th. The only question now is, will you be laying waste to alien foes in a few days’ time? Or are you willing to hold fire until the first reviews for Impulse’s shooter begin pouring onto the interwebs? Do let us know.
